Operational Support Technician (OST)

Viridor is at the forefront of waste management and resource recovery in the UK, operating the largest network of Energy Recovery Facilities (ERFs). We play a crucial role in supporting the UK's climate goals by diverting waste from landfills and transforming it into valuable energy resources. 

 

We have an opportunity in Exeter for an Operations Shift Technician to join our team working 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday with occassional on-call and shift work to cover holidays and absence.

As Operations Support Technician, you will provide support to the operations team at the ERF site.  You will plan, implement and monitor systems and processes through good practice to maximise the process and ensuring health, safety and environmental compliance. The Operations Support Technician will be a Senior Authorised Person (SAP) complying with the ERF Safe Systems of Work.  The role includes the supervision of contractors when carrying out activities on site. The Operations Support Technician will provide cover for shift operatives during any absences and for day operation team members for leave and attend training courses when required to ensure plant availability is maximised.   Build and maintain relationships with colleagues to ensure effective communication across the site. You will be required to be totally flexible and carry out other duties identified from time to time ensuring site objectives are achieved.

 

What we are looking for;

  • Understanding of Maintenance Management Systems.
  •  Good knowledge of environmental health & safety within a process or power industry.
  •  Excellent communication and organisational skills are required at all levels; both verbally and written. Ability to carry out team briefings, participate in detailed shift handovers and write concise reports.
  •  Ability to think logically and solve problems effectively and efficiently.
  • Experience in safe systems of work, issuing Permits To Work / safety documentation and systems.
  • Experience in the operation of mobile plant.
  • Engineering qualifications, preferably ONC / HNC (or equivalent).
  • Safety qualification, preferably IOSH or NEBOSH.
  • Senior Authorised Person (SAP).
