Viridor is at the forefront of waste management and resource recovery in the UK, operating the largest network of Energy Recovery Facilities (ERFs). We play a crucial role in supporting the UK's climate goals by diverting waste from landfills and transforming it into valuable energy resources.
We have an opportunity in GRREC, Glasgow for a Lead Control & Instrumentation Technician to join our team working 40 hours per week.
The salary for this role will be £64,742 per year, and participation in an annual bonus scheme, in addition to our great range of benefits.

Reporting to the Electrical, Control & Instrumentation Engineer, you will be responsible for leading the day-to-day planning, supervision and delivery of maintenance activities across the site's control and instrumentation assets. You will provide technical leadership to C&I Technicians and Apprentices whilst ensuring maintenance activities are completed safely, efficiently and in compliance with all operational, environmental and health & safety requirements.
This is a hands-on leadership position combining technical expertise, contractor management, outage planning and team development to maximise plant reliability and performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate planned and reactive maintenance activities on plant control and instrumentation systems.
- Supervise, mentor and support C&I Technicians and Apprentices.
- Diagnose faults and lead root cause investigations to ensure timely resolution of equipment issues.
- Manage contractors undertaking specialist maintenance activities, ensuring compliance with site procedures and safety standards.
- Conduct plant inspections, safety inspections and technical assessments.
- Ensure all maintenance activities are accurately recorded and managed through the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
- Support outage planning and delivery to optimise plant availability and asset reliability.
- Review and own Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS), ensuring all work is completed safely.
- Work closely with Planning Engineers and Stock Controllers to maintain critical spare parts and consumables.
- Assist with site projects and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Provide engineering cover and support when required.
- Conduct Performance Annual Reviews (PARs) and support the ongoing development of team members.
- Promote a positive health, safety and environmental culture across the site.

About You
Essential Experience
- Experience within a process industry, power generation, energy-from-waste, manufacturing or similar industrial environment.
- Strong background in Control & Instrumentation engineering and maintenance.
- Experience working with Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
- Experience with PLC, DCS and SCADA systems.
- Contractor management experience.
- Experience leading maintenance teams and driving performance improvements.

- Effective fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
- Proactive approach with a commitment to continuous improvement.
Essential Qualifications
- Recognised apprenticeship with City & Guilds, NVQ Level 3 or equivalent technical qualification in a relevant discipline.
Desirable Experience & Qualifications
- Experience working within the Energy from Waste sector.
- Knowledge of Management of Change processes.
- Experience managing Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMS).
- Experience working under Permit to Work systems.
- Cost management experience.
- HNC or equivalent technical qualification.
- Formal Health & Safety qualification.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Senior Authorised Person (SAP) or Prime Duty Holder status with LV/HV experience.
