Viridor is at the forefront of waste management and resource recovery in the UK, operating the largest network of Energy Recovery Facilities (ERFs). We play a crucial role in supporting the UK's climate goals by diverting waste from landfills and transforming it into valuable energy resources. 

 

We have an opportunity in Glasgow for a Year in Industry Student to join our team working 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday on a 12 month Fixed Term Contract

 

The salary for this role will be £23,880 per year, and participation in an annual bonus scheme, in addition to our great range of benefits.- CHECK

Are you an engineering student looking to gain hands-on industry experience? Do you want to work alongside expert engineers in a fast-paced and innovative environment? If so, our Year in Industry Placement within our Energy Recovery Facility (ERF) is the perfect opportunity for you!

 

About the Role

As a Year in Industry Student, you will work closely with our engineering teams, supporting maintenance management strategies and engineering processes. This placement will provide you with valuable exposure to real-world engineering challenges, helping to develop your technical and problem-solving skills.

 

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting with updating and maintaining the Holistech Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Supporting maintenance planning by coordinating and communicating tasks.
  • Working with discipline engineers to develop maintenance strategies for key systems and equipment.
  • Assisting with project planning, monitoring, and reporting.
  • Providing feedback to the Engineering Manager and Discipline Engineers on task and project progression.
  • Ensuring all activities comply with Health & Safety standards.

 

What We’re Looking For

We welcome applications from students currently studying Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, or Instrumentation) or a related discipline.

  • Basic engineering knowledge (electrical, mechanical, or instrumentation).
  • Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent attention to detail and methodical approach.
  • Good communication and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently and use initiative.
  • Confidence in presenting to small groups.
  • A full driving licence (beneficial but not essential).
  • Previous experience in an engineering environment (preferred but not required).
