EC&I Apprentice

Our Vision is to be the UK’s leading innovator of resource recovery and recycling, transforming waste for a climate-positive future.

Are you someone who lives and breathes high performance, leads with ambition, and would like to be part of an organisation that looks after tomorrow?  Viridor has a redefined purpose, a bold new Vision, and an ambitious, market-leading strategy. We are investing in the future, and we need a talented team with exceptional people, who believe in each other, to help us achieve this.

Join us, as we rise to the challenge and build a world where nothing goes to waste

Energy Recovery Facilities are vital in supporting the UK’s ambition to reduce waste in an efficient and effective manner, helping to reduce the impact of waste on climate change. After reducing, reusing and recycling as much as possible, our Energy Recovery Facilities (ERFs) provide the infrastructure to efficiently recover energy from residual waste, meaning landfill becomes the last resort.

We have an opportunity at our ERF in Peterborough for an Apprentice Electrical, Control and Instrument Technician to join our team, working 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday. This role is offered as a 4 year fixed term contract.

The salary for this role will be £21,965 per year, plus participation in an annual bonus scheme, in addition to our great range of benefits.

The closing date for applications is 30th June 2025. We encourage all applicants to apply as soon as possible as we may close vacancies early if we receive a high number of applications.

About the role

Our Engineering Apprenticeship Scheme will take approximately four years to complete, whereby you will also benefit from vocational training as well as study for a Technical Certificate at a local college provider. During this time, you will become qualified to carry out planned preventative maintenance, general maintenance of equipment, modifying and testing, inspecting condition-based monitoring and identifying faults within our systems.

Becoming our Engineering Apprentice will require commitment to a comprehensive training programme, ‘on the job’ training and the completion of a portfolio of evidence to support an NVQ Diploma (or equivalent). Therefore, we are looking for someone who has a ‘can-do’ attitude, a flexible and proactive approach to tasks, alongside a keen willingness to learn and the drive to succeed.

What are we looking for?

You will have, or expect to achieve, a minimum of five GCSE's (or equivalent qualifications) at grade C/Level 4 and above including English, Science and Maths. You will also have a good standard of IT skills and/or Microsoft Office knowledge with a practical aptitude for engineering or technology.
